ERIC time (enjoy reading in class) - this is an opportunity for your child to bring something from home into class that they can read themselves or to/with friends. It could be a book, magazine, newspaper, cereal box, football poster - anything! This will help to spread the joy of reading for pleasure and expose themselves and peers to the fact that having the ability to read allows us to access and enjoy a lot of things life offers us; that it is a vital skill not just for reading books in school/phonics!
Please remember to read your child's phonics book with them daily, and keep it in their book bag. We can't swap their book with a new one unless we are given back their current book. We aim to swap these once or twice weekly, depending on progress at the time.
We also give each child a 'library book' to take home each week - these aren't associated with our phonics programme and are usually above the pupils' own reading ability. Therefore an adult should read this book to/with them, for pleasure and to enjoy together. We aim to swap this once per week (as long as it is returned).
