Computing
“Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith.”
Romans 12:6
Our Vision and Guiding Principles for Computing
Computing introduces fundamental concepts of computer science to our learners, fostering digital literacy and problem solving skills from an early age. The use of information and communication technology is an integral part of the national curriculum and is a key skill for everyday life. Computers, tablets, programmable robots, digital and video cameras are a few of the tools that can be used to acquire, organise, store, manipulate, interpret, communicate and present information. At Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Primary School, we recognise that pupils are entitled to quality hardware and software and a structured and progressive approach to the learning of the skills needed to enable them to use it effectively.
At Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Primary School, we are dedicated to providing a Computing curriculum which abide by our principles:
Relevance, Challenge, and Enjoyment: Provide a curriculum that is relevant to pupils' lives, challenging enough to promote growth, and enjoyable to foster a love for ICT and computing.
Align with National Curriculum: Ensure that the teaching of ICT and computing adheres to the national curriculum programmes of study, covering essential topics and skills at the appropriate developmental stages.
Integration of computing Across the Curriculum: Utilise ICT and computing as versatile tools to enrich and enhance learning across all subjects, promoting interdisciplinary approaches to education.
Adaptability to Technological Advances: Stay updated with new developments in technology, incorporating emerging tools and trends to keep the curriculum current and relevant.
Life-Long Learning and Confidence: Equip pupils with the skills, confidence, and capability to use ICT and computing effectively in their later life, preparing them for a technology-driven world.
Cross-Curricular Enhancement: Enhance learning experiences in other areas of the curriculum by integrating ICT and computing, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Safety and Responsibility: Develop pupils' understanding of how to use ICT and computing safely, responsibly, and ethically, promoting digital citizenship and online safety awareness.
