Queen's lieutenant visit - we learned lots about Queen Elizabeth's life from when she was young up until now from her vice lieutenant who delivered an assembly to some year groups - it tied in perfectly with us, as our current topic is exploring what life was like when Elizabeth became queen back in 1953.
Science - Year 2 have been learning about animals, including humans. Active Sefton visited our classroom to share their knowledge on how to incorporate healthy eating into our diets to keep our bodies healthy - they even made fruit smoothies with us and we all got to try some. We have been collecting data including the length of body parts using rulers to allow us to compare results as well as carrying out investigations such as finding the most popular eye colour in class and using tally charts and bar graphs to record our data.
English and topic - We have been learning how to build up our sentences to include more detail and elements of spelling, punctuation and grammar in order to make it more engaging for the reader. This has included using exclamation and question marks, lots of adjectives to describe characters, settings and objects, using 'wow' vocabulary and conjunctions to join up sentences. In our topic we have learned about Queen Elizabeth II and what life was like during the start of her reign in 1953. We also learned about Rosa Parks for which we done some art as well as the Windrush generation who came to Britain post-war, for Black History Month. Of course daily reading has taken place too!
Maths - So far, year 2 have learned about place value with numbers up to 100 - breaking them down into their tens and ones, positioning them on number lines, comparing, finding missing parts in number sentences and recapping on number bonds to 10 and 20. We have since moved onto adding and subtracting across 10s by making 10 first, for example, if we are solving 8+5 we will become more efficient by adding 2 first to make 10 followed by adding the remaining 3 on to make 13.
