This week is British Sign Language Week. This week is a flagship awareness week for British Sign Language and Irish Sign Language, celebrated every year in March to commemorate the first time BSL was acknowledged as a language in its own right by the UK Government on 18 March 2003. We are very lucky to have Mrs Gray, from Sefton’s Hearing Team, in school today working with all of our classes to learn some sign language.

We read the opening to Gulliver’s travels, but stopped on the moment Gulliver awoke on the beach to discover he was tied down.
Following this, we went on an adventure yesterday to have a Lilliputian picnic. We experienced what Gulliver may have eaten and discussed the size of the food.
We used this experience to inform a short piece of writing in role of Gulliver.
It was a pleasure to welcome Mrs Marr and Mrs Winters into our end of topic collective worship.
We celebrated with a thanks giving message to our guests for their dedication and laity to our church and school community.

As part of English, we developed our understanding of the character’s thoughts and feelings at key events from the story, the balaclava story, by holding a conscience alley.

For our history lesson today, year 4 are learning about a rare artefact called the dancing girl, found in the Indus Valley.
The small statue dates back more than 5600 years ago and gave archaeologists clues to how this ancient civilisation lived.
We had a great time making out our artefacts based on the dancing girl.
We had the privilege of welcoming celebrated author Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
Frank has written several children’s books as well as scripting and producing the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics and scripting Paddington Bear as part of the Queens 90 birthday celebrations.
Frank attended school in Bootle and attributes his success and interest in writing to his schooling and attentive teachers.
Year 4 have been reading The Balaclava Story in class.
Today, we looked for key points and evidence from the text to back up our points, causing a lively discussion about what to include and what is not valid.📖📚
