Spring 2024
PE
This half term, pupils have been exploring stories through dance. Using movements and actions, they have designed routines and sequences re-telling the narratives within the tales. Pupils loved acting out George & The Dragon in particular. Pupils were able to use the bodies to tell a story and were able to work as part of a team to build their sequences. At the end of each lesson, pupils helped eachother by reflecting on their peers work and suggesting positives and areas for improvement.
Art
Year 2 have had a wonderful half term exploring Expressive Art. They completely engrossed themselves into this topic, demonstrating such curiosity and depth. The children explored different artists such as Marla Zacarias, Van Gough and Cezanne. The children started by working with primary colours to mix and create new colours. Next, they explored different tools to help them manipulate paint on the page - using weird and wonderful objects to create different patterns and textures. We then joined our thinking together to begin to paint the wonderful landscapes of Keswick (we had been learning about in Geography).
Humanities - Geography & History
Have you ever heard of The Great Exhibition? Do you know all about the engineering explosion during the Victorian Period? Well, Year 2 do know all about this! Our class have remembered some really interesting facts and details about this period in time. They looked at the development of The Great Western Railway, they examined how transport changed and how this made life better for people. We even explored the different class system during this time.
In Geography, we wanted to learn all about life in a mountain region, so we decided to look in the Lake District in the town of Keswick. Did you know that Keswick means 'cheese'. What an interesting town full of a wonderful history and a fascinating landscape. We managed to explore what life on a mountain is like and even designed a poster to warn people about what they would need to take to survive on a mountain trek.
