BUILD Curriculum Implementation
At Our Lady of Walsingham, we are dedicated to the successful implementation of our BUILD curriculum, designed to foster the holistic development of our pupils.
Supporting Our Catholic Faith: Our curriculum is deeply rooted in our Catholic faith, guiding our educational approach and shaping our school community. We integrate the teachings of the Catholic Church throughout our curriculum, promoting values such as compassion, integrity, and respect. Religious education is a core component, providing pupils with a strong foundation in Catholic doctrine, tradition, and scripture. We incorporate daily prayers, regular masses, and faith-based activities, fostering a spiritual environment where pupils can grow in their relationship with God. By embedding our Catholic identity in all aspects of school life, we ensure that our pupils develop both academically and spiritually, becoming well-rounded individuals who embody the teachings of Christ.
Curriculum Planning and Sequencing: Our subject leaders have meticulously mapped out an ambitious and engaging curriculum, ensuring that each subject is supported by a well-structured and carefully planned sequence of lessons throughout the year. This thoughtful approach allows us to provide a coherent and progressive learning journey for all pupils. The curriculum is overseen by our Curriculum Lead, who ensures its alignment with our educational goals and standards.
Focus on Effective Learning: Our commitment is to deliver an effective and comprehensive curriculum, rather than merely ensuring coverage of topics. We aim for deep understanding and mastery of subjects, which is reflected in the design of our lessons. Each lesson is purposefully crafted to help children know and remember key information, reinforcing their knowledge and skills over time.
Adaptive Teaching for All Learners: We recognise the diverse learning needs of our pupils and employ adaptive teaching processes to support every learner. This includes differentiated instruction, personalised learning strategies, and targeted interventions to ensure that all pupils can access and benefit from our curriculum. By adapting our teaching methods, we strive to meet the individual needs of each child, promoting their academic growth and personal development.
Reading at the Heart of the Curriculum: Reading is at the heart of our curriculum at Our Lady of Walsingham. We believe that a strong foundation in reading is essential for academic success and lifelong learning. Our curriculum incorporates a wide range of high-quality texts, designed to engage and inspire our pupils. Through daily reading practices, guided reading sessions, and cross-curricular reading opportunities, we aim to develop fluent, confident, and enthusiastic readers. By embedding reading opportunities across all subjects, we ensure that pupils not only acquire vital literacy skills but also develop a love for reading that will support their learning in every area of the curriculum.
Consistency Across Subjects: We aim for consistency in how we approach subjects across the school. This ensures that our pupils receive a cohesive educational experience, regardless of the subject or year level. Our consistent approach helps to establish clear expectations, reinforces learning objectives, and promotes a unified educational philosophy throughout the school. By maintaining this consistency, we support the continuous academic and personal growth of our pupils. Our professional development is focused upon ensuring that our staff have access to the best possible, research informed approaches.
Strong Subject Leadership and Development: Our ambitious curriculum is implemented through effective subject leadership and a commitment to robust subject knowledge. Subject leaders are provided with ongoing training opportunities to enhance their own knowledge, skills, and understanding. This continual professional development enables them to support curriculum development and assist their colleagues throughout the school. Subject leaders also create detailed subject audits, action plans, outlining priorities and strategies to ensure the successful implementation of their subjects. Each subject lead has developed subject policies, implementation overviews and other supporting documents to ensure our curriculum is clear and consistent.
Well-Resourced Learning Environment: Our school is well-equipped with learning materials, books, and technology, ensuring that pupils and teachers have the resources necessary for effective teaching and learning.
Enrichment Through External Specialists: We enhance and enrich our curriculum delivery by utilising external specialists and providers in various areas, such as Music and PE. This approach brings additional expertise and broadens the educational experiences of our pupils.
Statements of Intent, Implementation, and Impact: Each curriculum subject has its own statement of Intent, Implementation, and Impact. These statements can be found on each subject page on our school website or accessed by clicking on the relevant subject links on our curriculum web pages.

BUILD Curriculum Impact
At Our Lady of Walsingham, we are at the beginning of an exciting journey with our BUILD curriculum, designed to provide a significant and lasting impact on our pupils' education. Our curriculum aims to foster holistic development, ensuring academic excellence, personal growth, and strong moral values rooted in our Catholic faith. We measure the impact of our curriculum through various methods to ensure continuous improvement and high standards.
Ways We Measure the Impact:
Data and Performance Analysis:
- Statutory Assessments: We analyse data and performance in statutory assessments such as the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, KS1 SATs (optional), and KS2 SATs to gauge pupil progress and attainment.
- End-of-Key-Stage Performance: We compare our school's performance at the end of each key stage with national and local data to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement.
- Termly Tests: Regular analysis of data and performance in termly tests (Reading and Maths) helps us monitor pupil progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Writing Assessment: We conduct termly analysis of data and teacher assessments in Writing to ensure pupils are developing strong literacy skills.
Assessment and Analysis Strategies:
- Moderation and Meetings: We use a range of assessment and analysis strategies, including moderation of work, pupil progress meetings, and data tracking, to maintain high standards and consistency across the school.
- Subject Leader Reports: Subject leaders provide regular updates to SLT and the curriculum lead and provide an end of year report for Governors, offering insights into curriculum effectiveness and pupil outcomes.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Annual Reporting: We conduct annual reporting of standards across the curriculum through end-of-year reports, subject action plans, the School Development Plan, and self-evaluation forms.
- Subject Monitoring Evidence: We gather evidence through subject monitoring to evaluate the impact of teaching and learning practices.
- External Reviews: External curriculum reviews and audits, including subject deep dives by Link Advisors and education consultants, provide an objective assessment of our curriculum.
Visual and Interactive Evidence:
- Subject Display Boards: Subject display boards in corridors and classrooms ensures they showcase pupil work and capture substantive and disciplinary knowledge progression.
- Pupil Voice Exercises: Regular pupil voice exercises challenge pupils to recall their knowledge and discuss their learning experiences in current, recent, and previous lessons.
- Work Scrutiny: We perform work scrutiny of whole class/key stage samples and smaller samples to evaluate the quality and consistency of pupil work.
- Moderation: We moderate pupil work across the school and with other schools to ensure our assessments are accurate and aligned with external standards.
Parental and Community Feedback:
- Parental Feedback: We gather feedback from parents through parents’ evenings, workshops, open mornings, informal meetings, and surveys to ensure we are meeting the needs and expectations of our school community.
- Digital Evidence: We use digital evidence, such as photographs and video footage, to capture pupil voice, showcase pupil work, document educational visits, curriculum workshops, class assemblies, and competitions.
