Spring Term
Retelling a story
Today we helped Mrs Butler to retell the story of Jack and the beanstalk. Together we drew a story road with key pictures and words to help us retell the story with more independence. We have enjoyed retelling our own versions of the story with our friends this afternoon.
World Book Day
We all really enjoyed or first World Book Day in school. We loved wearing our pyjamas and sharing our favourite bedtime stories with our friends. We also visited the library and enjoyed listening to new stories read to us by our new friends in Year 6!
Pancake Day
Last week we enjoyed tasting pancakes with different toppings. We learnt that pancake day is also called Shrove Tuesday and that it is celebrated by people all over the world. We looked at photographs of the foods people eat in different countries to celebrate the day. We also learnt that Lent is beginning and this is when we begin to prepare for Easter.
A visitor in our classroom
We found footprints in our classroom! We went outside to play, when we returned we found two giant footprints on our carpet! Could it be a giant? Could it be an animal? We measure the size of the footprints and compared them to our feet. They are not children’s footprints!
Measuring
This week we have been learning all about how we measure the weight of different objects using scales. We compared different objects to find things that are heavy and things that are light.
Chinese New Year
We have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We have learnt about the different ways people celebrate and what special things they do to make their celebrations unique. We really enjoyed tasting Chinese food, it was delicious!
Exploring Space
This half term we have been busy reading and retelling a version of the story ‘How to catch a star’ by Oliver Jeffers.
We have created a class text map to help us retell the story using different actions.
During our busy time we have built rockets, decorated planets, explored the space station in our role play area and counted aliens around the classroom.
Mark Making
We have enjoyed our Funky Fingers sessions this week. We watched a video all about different wild animals and then made different actions to act out the characters and the actions they make. We used a range of resources to make marks to represent the actions. Here we are using chalks outside.
